Chemin du Roc via Bd. Saint Michel

Chemin du Roc via Bd. Saint Michel

One of the possible paths to start the Roc trail begins here. On Boulevard Saint-Michel, take Chemin du Roc, the climb begins directly and this is an opportunity to take stock of the “water” point because there is a fountain at the start of the climb.

Chemin du Roc via the Sacré Cœur church

One of the possible paths to start the Roc trail from the old center begins here. by following the church of the Sacré Cœur on its left, you will quickly arrive on the Chemin du Roc.

Baous district

One of the possible paths to start the Roc trail also begins here. In rue Saint Victor, take the alley to the left of the church, climb the stairs in front of you and follow the small path on the right to reach the “Jardins de la Tour Pentagonale”.

The gardens of the Pentagonal Tower

An optional stop, but which we strongly recommend, the gardens of the Pentagonal Tower. In addition to being a place steeped in history, the view of the rooftops of Castellane and the Verdon valley is breathtaking. Besides, if you already have it because of the climb, it's also an opportunity to take a break and enjoy these gardens.

Where the three paths meet

Whether you chose any of the three starts, you will all eventually join the trail. Because all roads lead to the Notre-Dame du Roc chapel!

Archaeological site of Petra Castellana

The archaeological site of Petra Castellana is hidden behind the Rock. A short detour on the site will allow you to discover the ancient medieval town of Castellane today made up of remains of ramparts, chapel and walls.

Notre-Dame Chapel of the Roc

You have arrived at the summit, catch your breath, drink from the fountain and enjoy the panorama before you. If the 360° view around the chapel is incredible, the building so high up has nothing to be ashamed of. The exteriors and interiors have benefited from restoration work which gives this monument all its glory.
