The village of Castellane, nestled in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, committed to protecting the night sky, encouraged by the Verdon Regional Natural Park.
Let's turn off the light,
Let's light up the stars again!
The Park is trying to rethink the place of public lighting in our environment and encourage municipalities to reduce the light pollution that it too often generates. Impacting in particular the nocturnal fauna and our ineffable pleasure in contemplating the celestial vault.

observe the stars
Alpes de Haute Provence
In recent years, Castellane turns off its street lighting at night.
The geographical location of the town of Castellane offers an exceptional starry sky. By fighting against light pollution, we can:improving the life cycles of nocturnal animals (90% of butterflies and amphibians in France!) and contemplate the stars and constellations and thus make your visit to the Verdon even more magical!

Notre-Dame Chapel of the Roc
A new starry sky
The Notre-Dame chapel has been completely restored and it is the interior work that finalized this project in June 2024. They have restored the shine to this Castellane monument. The restoration brought a lot of surprises such as the discovery of the painted decorations. Today it is once again possible to observe the magnificent star choir as it was in the 19th century.
