The Brandis Cadières

The Cadières de Brandis trail is located in Castellane. This loop route starting from the Col des Lèques offers breathtaking panoramas of the Verdon valley and the surrounding peaks.

Medium level – Loop – 3h30 – 400m elevation gain – 8km – yellow markings.

Trail description

The trail starts from the Col des Lèques, located 7km from the village of Castellane towards Digne. A car park set up for the Siréniens trail allows you to park in complete safety, you will then have to cross the road to reach the track from where the hike begins.

From the first steps, you will be immersed in an authentic atmosphere, crossing oak and pine forests, and discovering famazing and spectacular geological ormations. Arriving at the top of the hike, the jagged chimneys perched at the top of the ridge offer you a exceptional panoramic view of the region. From their summit, you can admire the Verdon valley, the surrounding plateaus and the neighboring peaks.

The trail is also a nature lover’s paradise. Biodiversity is rich and varied. Along the way, it is not uncommon to come across vultures to chamois. Amateur botanists will be able to observe a wide variety of Mediterranean and Alpine plants, such as wild lavender, thyme or juniper.

Les Cadières de Brandis, kesako?

The Cadières de Brandis are towering rock formations which look like gigantic giant chairs! Dominating the Verdon from almost 1500 m, this natural monument, shaped by erosion over the millennia, marks the landscape of Castellane, like an open-air museum!

Practical advice :

  • The Cadières de Brandis trail is accessible to everyone, but it is recommended to be in good physical condition to fully enjoy the hike. It is advisable to wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring 2 liters of water per person and protect yourself from the sun.

 

  • The best times to hike this trail are spring and fall, when temperatures are milder and nature is in full bloom. If you want to do it in summer, we recommend that you leave early or late in the day to avoid the extreme heat.
